FCT ADMINISTRATION TO CONSTRUCT N6BN ROAD PROJECT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration will soon begin massive construction of about 15 kilometers left hand service carriageway of outer southern expressway stage two from Ring Road One (RR1) to Wasa Junction within the territory.

Nigerian Tribune gathered reliably that when completed, the project would protect the right of way from encroachment by developers and address the prolonged bottlenecks being experienced by motorists on daily basis.

Other expected benefits of the road included serving as an alternative route for motorists from the North East axis of the City to the City Centre through right hand service carriageway of outer Southern expressway (OSEX) from Ring Road Three Junction to Wasa Junction, the five kilometers road recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and also provide job opportunities for the residents of the territory, among others.

The road was one of the primary expressways in the Abuja Master Plan that ran from the Villa roundabout to Gwagawalada covering a distance of 67 kilometers bounding the southern portion of the city.

It was designed to have ten lanes, consisting of three lanes of two-main carriageways and two lanes of two-service carriageways.

It will be recalled that the right hand service carriageway of OSEX from Ring Road One Junction was already operational and being utilised on a dual mode.

However, rapid development along that axis of the road has resulted in incessant congestion and chaotic vehicular traffic, leading to loss in precious man-hours by road users.

Checks revealed that authorities at the FCT administration had treaded with caution since the face-off between the army and the company broke out, but it was gathered that the action of the army had negatively affected the firm and the project, where the FCT administration feared that continued delay in delivering the project might lead to job variation and extra cost.

A source told the Nigerian Tribune that the administration expected the army to report the alleged encroachment to the Land Department of FCT Administration before taking any action.

According to the source, the administration would simply have done the needful without attracting undue media attention into the matter and incurring avoidable costs.

The source hinted that the administration was simply embarrassed by the invasion.
