FRSC CALLS FOR JOINT PATROLS WITH NURTW, SECURITY AGENCIES

FRSC and NURTW

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Friday called for joint patrols with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and security agencies across the country.

Assistant Corps Marshal Kingsley Agomoh in charge of Zone RS7H2 comprising of Abuja and Niger made the call in Minna during a familiarisation visit to Niger.

He said that the decision would assist them to reduce accidents on the nation`s roads.

Once in a while, officials of the FRSC, NURTW and security agencies should organise special and joint patrols.

It will make all of us to appreciate what the FRSC is doing to save lives on our roads.

The patrols which will also involve other critical stakeholders will encourage us to always obey traffic rules and regulations.

Every road user is a stakeholder so I want to use this opportunity to seek your continuous support in ensuring that our roads are safe for all of us”, he said.

Agomoh directed the Sector Commander in the state, Susan Ajenge, to ensure that reckless drivers were arrested and punished.

According to him, “Any reckless driver must be given ticket. He must be arrested and punished to serve as a deterrent and also to save the lives of others. “

He warned vehicles, especially articulated vehicles mounted with additional headlights, to remove them as the commission would ensure that such drivers were punished.

There is no law that prevents anyone from travelling at night.

But, we have been warning travellers to desist from travelling at night because of dangerous driving, bad roads and sometimes, the activities of men of the underworld.

Each time we come across articulated vehicles with additional headlights, we remove them because other road users are not safe when such lights are on at night.

These extra lights sometimes lead to road traffic crashes as they prevent other road users from seeing the object in front of them as a result of the high beam”, he said.

Earlier, Ajenge said that the Assistant Corps Marshal’s visit to the state was to assess the operations of the commission and identify areas of challenges so as to proffer solutions.

She commended the security agencies in the state, the driving schools, Special Marshals, Nigerian Union of Journalists, NURTW and others for collaborating with the commission to ensure safety of road users.
