NADDC TO ORGANISE AUTOMOTIVE DESIGN COMPETITION

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) said it will soon kick-start a nationwide Automotive Design Competition to engage and promote the incredible creative and innovative talents of the Nigerian youth.

Already, a local organising committee to chart the way forward for the competition has been constituted by the Director-General, NADDC, Mr. Jelani Aliyu.

Aliyu had promised to institute the competition immediately he assumed office as the Automotive Council helmsman.

A statement issued weekend in Abuja said the competition is not for the design of sports and luxury cars, but for the conceptualisation of highly advanced, innovative and cost-effective strategically positioned market-driven concepts that would be produced in Nigeria.

NADDC said it would support the development of winning concepts and integrate local content, feeding directly into the Nigerian automotive ecosystem, especially the proposed Automotive Industrial Clusters for Nnewi, Kaduna and Osogbo.

“Automotive Design goes beyond beautiful shapes, it is about the strategic conceptualisation and development of applicable transportation solutions that will enable survival and economic growth.” the statement noted, adding “NADDC is working with industry professionals and stakeholders, and will soon be (kick-starting) the Automotive Design Competition.”
