OGUN STATE COMMENCES DEMOLITION OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES ON LAGOS-IBADAN ROAD

Ogun Demolition

Ogun State government has started the demolition of shanties and illegal structures along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and other parts of the state.

The State Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Adebola Adeife, who disclosed this in Abeokuta yesterday, said Government’s Taskforce, had during the week demolished over 120 illegal structures erected along the highway.

The Commissioner noted that most of the demolished structures at the Isheri-Kara end of the road constituted a menace to residents.

According to him, the demolition was as a result of several reports from the people around the area about alleged cases of sex for slavery, robbery and sundry crimes.

He warned that government would not condone criminal activities under any guise.

Adeifa added that the task force also cleared some illegal structures erected at the Abeokuta-Sagamu expressway in accordance with the urban renewal programme of the state.

He restated that, “Shanties are not good for the state and investment drive of the government,” adding, the exercise would continue until sanity is restored to the areas.
