ONE DIES, NINE INJURED IN OGUN AUTO CRASH

One person died, while nine others were injured in an auto crash at Onipepeye village, along the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway on Sunday.

The accident involved a Volkswagen bus with number plate AAB 318 AA travelling from Abeokuta towards Ajura, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the accident occurred around 9am and was caused by speeding.

He said the bus, which was conveying 13 people to church, had a blowout after which the driver lost control and the bus entered the bush.

Three of the injured victims were said to have been rushed to the Ijaiye General Hospital, Abeokuta, while the six others were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.

Akinbiyi said, “The vehicle was coming from Abeokuta and heading for Ajura. It was loaded with people going for the Sunday service; they were dressed in white cassocks.

“The accident was caused by speeding. One of the victims died, while nine others were injured. The remaining three were unhurt. The corpse of the victim has been deposited in the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.”
