RE-CERTIFICATION OF DRIVERS TO ELIMINATE ROAD ACCIDENT

lasdri1The training and re-certification of professional drivers in the private and public sectors by the Lagos State Driver’s Institute (LASDRI) will instill professionalism and curb road accidents, Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, (LASDRI), Ogunlade Philip said.

Speaking at the Oshodi office of the Institute, Philip harped on the need to retrain drivers yearly.

According to him, updating drivers’ skills will ensure efficient and safe driving on Lagos roads.

Philip said the ongoing training and recertification of drivers in the state brought a new dawn, where emphases are laid on road orderliness and respect for law.

In addition to training and recertification of drivers, LASDRI performs the functions of assisting drivers to be medically and mentally alert for driving, he said.

He added that the institute has bridged the training gap in the sector, particularly in the state, noting that lack of proper training for drivers had led to avoidable road accidents, wastage of man-hours, economic loss and environmental degradation with attendant consequences on the economy and medical facilities.

Philip said with the use of modern equipment; stimulation and audiovisuals, drivers are being trained in line with the world best standard practices.

“Recertification become necessary to update driving knowledge and skill in order to avoid accident, economic waste and deaths on the road,” he stated.

Philip called on stakeholders in the transport industry, especially commercial drivers and others in the public and private sectors to improve driving culture in the state.
