SPEED LIMITING DEVICE: FRSC ISSUES CITATIONS TO 2,800 MOTORISTS

FRSC Corps Marshal

The Federal Road Safety Corps has issued traffic citations to 2,800 commercial motorists for their failure to instal the speed limiting device on their vehicles.

The corps described the citations as an advisory enforcement, which did not attract penalties or fines, a statement on Sunday in Abuja, by Bisi Kazeem, the Head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC, said.

The statement said the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, expressed satisfaction with the advisory enforcement of speed limiting device nationwide, which took off on Saturday.

It added that the enforcement was not meant to inflict pain on motorists and road users, but for commercial vehicle owners to voluntarily imbibe the culture of its usage and key into it.

The FRSC stated that the advisory enforcement was a sort of subtle force that entailed stopping commercial vehicles, verifying electronically whether the speed limiting device was fixed and giving citation to offenders for corrective purposes.

“In the coming days, the leadership of the organised transport unions such as the National Union of Road Transport Workers, the Petroleum Tankers Drivers, the National Association of Road Truck Owners, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria and others shall be involved in the advisory enforcement by joining the FRSC top officers on patrol,” the statement said.
