Two persons were confirmed dead, while eight others sustained injuries in an accident along the Ilo-Awela Road, at the Tollgate area of Sango-Ota, Ogun State, on Thursday.
The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ota Unit, Mr. Adekunle Oguntoyinbo, stated this.
He said the accident, which involved two buses, was caused by brake failure.
He said the brakes of one of the buses, a Lagos commercial bus, failed and it rammed into another bus at the tollgate, after which it ran over two persons at the bus stop.
He said one of the victims died on the spot, while the other died on the way to a hospital.
The unit commander stated that the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary of the Ota General Hospital, adding that the injured persons were receiving treatment in the same hospital.
Oguntoyinbo advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles were in good conditions before putting them on the road.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, however, said his record showed that one male victim was run over by the commercial bus at the Tollgate.
