No fewer than 18 passengers travelling from Agbor to Warri in Delta State with the state-owned inter-city bus, on Friday morning, narrowly escaped death as the vehicle went up in flames while in motion.
It was gathered that pandemonium broke out midway into the journey at the Police Junction in Abraka, when passengers began to notice smoke from the moving vehicle.
A passenger, Esther Ozowa, told Southern City News that they managed to escape before the bus was gutted by fire.
It was gathered that the inferno emanated from the engine box.
Esther, a final year Law student of the Delta State University, noted that all the passengers survived the incident, but not without few sustaining minor injuries and fractures while scampering for safety.
She added that the bus was carrying mainly students, including children and few elderly.
“Join me to thank God. I just survived a major accident. A Delta State inter-city bus I was travelling in to Warri from Agbor went up in flame while in motion, but we managed to escape. We were inside the bus and suddenly all we heard was fire!
“We were already in Abraka when the incident occurred. We were able to escape because of the little traffic we encountered at Police Junction in Abraka. If not, it would have been a different story,” the law student added.
