Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Tuesday gave a startling revelation indicating that the Nigerian roads are congested leading to increased accidents claiming human many lives. The commission said about 10.6 million registered vehicles are estimated to ply Nigerian roads nationwide in 2016; a number it said exerts enormous pressure on available roads in the country.

Sokoto State Government has approved the construction of three major roads in Sokoto metropolis at the cost of over N1.5 billion. Alhaji Mohammadu Mannir, the State’s Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, stated this when he addressed journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Sokoto.

No fewer than seven persons lost their lives while two others were injured in a motor accident, which occurred yesterday along Bauchi-Jos Road. Briefing newsmen, the Spokesperson of Bauchi Zonal Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander, Daniel Sayi, said the accident involved a truck with Registration Number TYW 24 XA and a Peugeot.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has said that it will no longer condone the recklessness of tipper drivers in Anambra State. The Lagos State House of Assembly has resolved to call on the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to provide Closed Circuit Television cameras on roads across the state to monitor activities of motorists. The Assembly on Monday said the move would also make it easy to monitor hoodlums vandalising government’s property in the state.

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of speed-related accidents in Nigeria, the National Automotive Development and Design Council has directed all vehicle manufacturing plants in the country to install the speed-limiting device in their vehicles. A deadline for compliance on the installation of the device in all vehicles being imported into the country has also been given.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), says contractors will resume work on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway next week. Fashola, who spoke at the inaugural Buharimeter Town Hall meeting in Abuja on Thursday, said contractors had abandoned several projects because the last administration owed them money.
