Tragedy struck in Abuja, the nation’s capital as three women and four children were burnt to death in a tanker fire on Sunday.
The tanker, which was laden with diesel, was said to have suffered break failure and rammed into another vehicle, resulting in a blaze which killed three women and four children, Channels TV reports.
Those killed were among the eleven occupants of the vehicle that was hit by the tanker.
Others who were injured were rushed to Garki and Asokoro General hospitals for medical attention.
The dead victims were reportedly burnt to ashes during the accident which occurred around 2pm on Sunday.
The Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Commander Bisi Kazeem, confirmed the incident, saying the tanker lost control and crashed, adding that the resultant explosion killed the victims.
He said, “Policemen, fire fighters, civil defence men together with our men from the CBD Command worked at the scene.
“The injured persons were taken to Garki and Asokoro General Hospitals while the dead were taken to the mortuary.”
The Acting Commandant of Nigerian Fire Services in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Okpetusi Julius, said the driver of the vehicle was among those who survived the incident.
