OVER 35 HOUSES RAZED IN ANOTHER TANKER EXPLOSION AT IDIMU, LAGOS

At about 12.05am today, in the Idimu axis of Ikotun-egbe, a fully loaded petrol tanker, reportedly overspeeding, fell-over, spilled its content into the drainage through which it traveled for another 1km and exploded into a massive inferno that consumed over 35 houses within the vicinity.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal and State Fire Services however arrived the scene of the fire incident in good time. The fire, as at the early hours of this morning, has been put out while the residents bemoan their losses.

It would be recalled that similar incident happened at about the same time in Iyana-Ipaja in which scores of houses, shops, vehicles and tricycles were completely razed and 14 persons injured.

LOCALLY-ASSEMBLED VEHICLES TO GET SPEED LIMITERS

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of speed-related accidents in Nigeria, the National Automotive Development and Design Council has directed all vehicle manufacturing plants in the country to install the speed-limiting device in their vehicles.

It\'s best to avoid potholes entirely, but if that\'s not possible, don\'t brake during the pothole impact. Instead, apply brakes before hitting a pothole and release them just before impact. Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
