CHISCO BUS CARRYING IKORODU UNITED PLAYERS EN ROUTE MAKURDI CRASHES

Nigeria Professional Football League side, Ikorodu United, were on Friday involved in a ghastly auto crash. The accident happened at about 4pm along AMA Brewery Road 9th Mile, Enugu.

The team was travelling in a Chisco bus, which collided with a truck that over-turned and burst into flames. Ikorodu United at the moment are the bottom team in the Nigeria League; having only recorded a paltry 15 points from 21 games. The league’s bottom club were travelling from their Lagos base to Makurdi, Benue State for NPFL Match Day 23 fixture with Lobi Stars billed for Sunday, June 19, 2016.

The Club in a Facebook Post said “The DFA representative in the NPFL Ikorodu United FC’ bus was involved in a ghastly accident that claimed several lives at about 4pm along AMA Brewery Road 9th Mile Enugu, Enugu State. The “Oga Boys” traveling in a Chisco bus to honour the week 23 fixtures against Lobi Stars FC in Makurdi, Benue State escaped death by whiskers. The players and staffs traveling sustained minor shoulder injuries.

Let us continue to pray for the entire squad. Chairman of Ikorodu Divisional FA, Alhaji Lukman Sonibare has since hearing the news enjoined all football stakeholders in the Division to join faith with the Board for players’ confidence to be restored back sooner than expected.”

LOCALLY-ASSEMBLED VEHICLES TO GET SPEED LIMITERS

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of speed-related accidents in Nigeria, the National Automotive Development and Design Council has directed all vehicle manufacturing plants in the country to install the speed-limiting device in their vehicles.

He said, “The impact associated with the implementation of the auto policy is as follows: the diversion of cars carrying vessel to neighbouring West African ports as a result of high tariff on imported vehicles; and the reduction of the maritime workforce by 70 per cent, which affects mostly licensed customs agents, importers, dealers and Nigerians abroad.”

The impact of potholes on tyres increases dramatically with speed and can cause hidden, internal damage that could lead to tyre failure weeks, or even months, later. It\'s best to avoid potholes entirely, but if that\'s not possible, don\'t brake during the pothole impact. Instead, apply brakes before hitting a pothole and release them just before impact. Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
