AFTER YEARS OF ABANDONMENT, WORK BEGINS ON OTUOCHA-IBAJI ROAD

Work has finally commenced on the Otuocha-Ibaji Road after years of abandonment by successive governments.

The member representing Anambra East and Anambra West in the House of Representatives, Dr. Tony Nwoye broke the cheering news to his constituents during an empowering programme he organized for them at Nsugbe in Anambra East local government area of the state.

Nwoye said that through his efforts, the national assembly approved N800 million for the road in this year’s budget, which would soon be signed into law by the president, assuring that work would continue on the road until it was completed.

He said that upon completion of the road, journey from Anambra to Abuja would be reduced by at least two hours, just as many communities along the road would be opened up.

He also said that the chairman of the House of Representatives committee on works, Mr. Toby Okechukwu had inspected the road and expressed happiness with the work done so far.

Nwoye, who is among those eyeing the governorship of Anambra State in November this year on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, said his primary concern at the moment was empowerment of his constituents, adding that yesterday’s empowerment was the fifth since he was sworn in as a member of the national assembly.

LOCALLY-ASSEMBLED VEHICLES TO GET SPEED LIMITERS

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of speed-related accidents in Nigeria, the National Automotive Development and Design Council has directed all vehicle manufacturing plants in the country to install the speed-limiting device in their vehicles.

He said, “The impact associated with the implementation of the auto policy is as follows: the diversion of cars carrying vessel to neighbouring West African ports as a result of high tariff on imported vehicles; and the reduction of the maritime workforce by 70 per cent, which affects mostly licensed customs agents, importers, dealers and Nigerians abroad.”

SAFETY TIPS! COPING WITH POTHOLES

Hitting potholes can throw your vehicle\'s front end out of alignment. If you feel your car \"pulling\" during driving, that\'s a clue that you could have a problem.

When you hit a pothole you can damage your tyre and/or the metal wheel of your vehicle. Keeping your tyres properly inflated will help reduce damage from potholes and other road hazards.

The impact of potholes on tyres increases dramatically with speed and can cause hidden, internal damage that could lead to tyre failure weeks, or even months, later. It\'s best to avoid potholes entirely, but if that\'s not possible, don\'t brake during the pothole impact. Instead, apply brakes before hitting a pothole and release them just before impact. Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
