A commercial bus conveying about 14 passengers from Port Harcourt to Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State was intercepted on Friday by suspected kidnappers. The hoodlums were said to have ordered the passengers out of the vehicle, set it ablaze before whisking them (passengers) away.

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on Friday launched an operation against kidnappers and other hoodlums by deploying 510 anti-riot policemen on Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. The operation which was backed with 40 patrol vehicles and armoured carriers, was expected to man dark spots and vulnerable points along the road which had become notorious for kidnapping and other violent crimes.
