The LAGBUS Asset Management Limited says drivers, who protested against deduction in their salaries on Tuesday, are not its workers.
It added that the protesters worked with Primero Transport Services Limited, which operates Lagos Bus Rapid Transport, contrary to their portrayal as LAGBUS workers.
The Punch had reported that many commuters were stranded on Tuesday after the drivers trooped to their office on Ikorodu Road, Majidun bus stop, lamenting alleged deduction from their salaries.
The protesters had lamented a reduction of their salary from N60,000.00 to N40,000.00. They also decried delay in the payment of their July salaries and poor working conditions, urging the company to address the issues.
In a statement on Wednesday, signed by one Adetoun Gaji and Emeka Ogwo, LAGBUS said the protesters were wrongly portrayed as members of its staff.
The statement read in part, “Your story portrayed LAGBUS in the headline as having its drivers protest a salary reduction. The people protesting are not LAGBUS workers.
“This has caused us embarrassment and has been widely disseminated by various online platforms.”
Meanwhile, the protesters have resumed work on Wednesday while dialogues are ongoing between the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, the BRT operator, and representatives of the drivers.
One of the drivers, who did not want his name in print, told our correspondent that the July salary had been paid.
