A commercial bus driver reportedly died Saturday morning in auto crash involving a tanker laden with ethanol and the bus he drove.
The accident occurred at Ayetoro axis along the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The tanker was travelling outside Lagos while the Mazda commercial bus was Lagos bound.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the driver of the tanker with the number plate AKD 650 XQ was speeding, and he lost control, causing the DAF tanker to hit a barrier, and rammed into the bus going to Lagos, with the number plate BWR 515 XA.
He said only the driver of the bus was presumed dead.
He said,” The accident occurred at exactly 9.25am at Ayetoro axis along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“The driver of a tanker laden with ethanol caused the accident. He was travelling outside Lagos, and due to speeding he veered off his lane and faced the oncoming Mazda commercial bus, leading to head on collision.
“The driver of the commercial bus died instantly. The accident caused gridlock around this axis of the ever busy highway.
“TRACE and Federal Road Safety Corps personnel and policemen are on ground to ensure smooth flow of traffic.”
