ENUGU ROAD CRASH CLAIMS EIGHT LIVES

No fewer than eight persons have been confirmed dead in a car crash in Enugu State.

The accident occurred along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway, by the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital junction, at Ituku-Ozalla.

It was gathered that a commercial transit vehicle, with Akwa-Ibom registration number, KTD 58 LG, which was conveying passengers to Aba, in Abia State, from a prayer centre in the Ezeagu area of Enugu, lost control and veered into the bush.

The vehicle reportedly somersaulted several times, leaving eight persons dead.

The spokesman for the Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, named the driver of the vehicle as one Kenneth Nwigwe, of Enugu-Ukwu in Anambra State.

The driver survived alongside 12 other passengers.

It was gathered that the survivors sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
