Four persons reportedly died while five others were injured in an auto crash which occurred along the Ijebu Ode-Benin Expressway on Sunday.
The casualties, our correspondent gathered, were travelling in a Toyota Sienna commercial Sport Utility Vehicle with number plate LND 708 AH which crashed into a stationary Mack truck marked JJJ 50 XQ, from behind.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the Toyota Sienna travelling from Lagos to the eastern part of the country, rammed into the truck around Ijebu Ode axis of the expressway.
He said the accident occurred during a downpour in the early hours of Sunday. Akinbiyi blamed the accident on speeding on the part of the driver, who was among the four who died.
He said, “Our operatives at the scene of the accident blamed it on speeding on the part of the driver of the Toyota Sienna commercial mini-bus.
“It was raining and he rammed his vehicle into the stationary truck from behind. Four of the passengers were said to have died, two adult males including the driver, one boy and one female.
“Two other males and two female passengers and one minor survived but were seriously injured in the auto crash.”
Akinbiyi said the corpses of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue of the General Hospital in Ijebu Ode, while the injured were also receiving treatment in the same hospital.
