FRSC CERTIFY 26 FLEET OPERATORS IN OGUN

THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, on Wednesday, issued certificate of operation to 26 fleet operators across the state.

Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander, told newsmen after the presentation that there was need to certify all fleet operators in the state.

Oladele said that the FRSC wanted to regulate the road transport system in the country so that it could be safe and secure for users.

He added that the FRSC was concerned about the safety of road users, noting that the certification of fleet operators would build confidence in the operators and those that would use the service.

He explained that “today’s certification of fleet operators in Ogun is a national programme whereby the FRSC wants to regulate road transport system in the country so that it can be safe.

“The whole essence of this is just to bring out those that have met the minimum requirements and for them to showcase what they have done.”

The Sector Commander said it was similar to what was obtained in the aviation industry, whereby tickets were bought based on their safety records.

He added that operators must meet basic requirements such as having a minimum of five vehicles.

“The drivers that are going to operate these vehicles must also be fit and have licence,” he noted.

He advised other fleet operators in the state to ensure that they were certified.

Mr Makinde David, the Transport Director of Babcock University, Ilisan, commended the FRSC for the certification.

He, however, called for regular meeting of enforcers of the law and road users for hitch-free operation.

SAFETY TIPS! COPING WITH POTHOLES

Hitting potholes can throw your vehicle\'s front end out of alignment. If you feel your car \"pulling\" during driving, that\'s a clue that you could have a problem.

Check the tread on your tyres. Uneven tread wear can be a sign of misalignment. If you hit a severe pothole, have the vehicle\'s alignment and tyre balance checked.

When you hit a pothole you can damage your tyre and/or the metal wheel of your vehicle. Keeping your tyres properly inflated will help reduce damage from potholes and other road hazards.

The impact of potholes on tyres increases dramatically with speed and can cause hidden, internal damage that could lead to tyre failure weeks, or even months, later. It\'s best to avoid potholes entirely, but if that\'s not possible, don\'t brake during the pothole impact. Instead, apply brakes before hitting a pothole and release them just before impact. Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
