FRSC CORPS MARSHAL APPREHENDS DRIVER, IMPOUND VEHICLE FOR SPEEDING

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has personally apprehended a bus driver and impounded the vehicle with registration number UWN 402 ZT for flagrant violation of the law of speed limits.

The incident occurred along Okigwe -Enugu highway when the driver attempted to overtake the Corps Marshal’s convoy on a high speed.

According to Bisi Kazeem, Head, Media Relations and Strategy of FRSC, the speeding driver was stopped and questioned for his action. It was discovered that he had tampered with the speed limiting device in his vehicle rendering it ineffective.

The Corps Marshal subsequently directed that the driver should be booked for speed limit violation, dangerous driving and tampering with speed limit device in his vehicle.

He also warns other drivers against the practice of traffic violations saying such act undermines the safety of other road users.

LOCALLY-ASSEMBLED VEHICLES TO GET SPEED LIMITERS

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of speed-related accidents in Nigeria, the National Automotive Development and Design Council has directed all vehicle manufacturing plants in the country to install the speed-limiting device in their vehicles.
A deadline for compliance on the installation of the device in all vehicles being imported into the country has also been given.

It\'s best to avoid potholes entirely, but if that\'s not possible, don\'t brake during the pothole impact. Instead, apply brakes before hitting a pothole and release them just before impact. Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
