GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES BAUCHI’S PLAN TO PROCURE, SUBSIDIZE MODERN TRICYCLES ON LOAN TO ASSOCIATION

In an effort to provided and efficient and effective public transport service to the people of Bauchi State, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has announced his administration’s plan to procure undisclosed number of tricycles to be distributed on loan to members of the Bauchi State chapter of the National Association of Commercial Tricycles and Motor Cycles of Nigeria who paid him a courtesy visit.

In a press statement released by the Press Secretary, Abubakar Al-Sadique, the governor who stated this observed that Bauchi State would have been transformed to greater height than what it is today if his detractors had cooperated with him.

Governor Abubakar said the achievements of his administration were the results of prudence and blockage of leakages in the system.

“Those who know our financial predicaments keep asking me where the source of all the money being used to finance the projects we have embarked upon, but my answer has always been that there isn’t any miracle.

“We only ensured that the little that is available is judiciously and prudently put into the critical areas that require intervention”, he stressed.

While commending members of the association for ensuring that their votes counted in the last elections, Governor Abubakar announced that the modern tricycles would be procured, subsidized and distributed only to members of the association without intermediaries in order to boost public transportation in the State.

He also announced the donation of a bus to the association.

Special adviser to the governor on special services and chairman of task force committee set up to register and regulate the activities of commercial tricycles and motor cycles in Bauchi State, retired Air Commander Ahmed Tijjani Baba Gamawa observed that because of the security challenges that rocked the Northeast sub-region, all neighbouring states have banned commercial motor cycles, except Bauchi.

Air Commander Gamawa however noted that because of the concern for the employment opportunities commercial tricycles and motor cycles provided to many hitherto unemployed youth in the State and the danger banning them poses to the security of the State, the governor agreed to regulate and sanitize it, making Bauchi the only State where commercial motor cycles are allowed.

Special adviser said members of the association were now law abiding, and the registration exercise has reduced the incidence of motor cycle thefts and other related crimes in the State, “since all commercial motor cycles have now been duly registered in the State with all the details of the riders recorded, and identifiable numbers given to all the commercial tricycles and motor cycles”.

Chairman of the association, Alhaji Ubale Ahmed while expressing gratitude that the governor has not joined other states in banning their activities, said members of the association were in the government house to “celebrate the success of the governor and APC in the 2015 elections”.

Alhaji Ubale Ahmed commended the governor for the achievements recorded by his administration in spite of the recession in the country “especially in the areas of construction and rehabilitation of roads under the greater Bauchi revival project of which my members are the first direct beneficiaries”.

He assured the governor of the association’s support at all times.
