Ten people have been confirmed dead while nine others sustained injuries in a motor accident that occurred along Ibadan-Oyo Road on Saturday evening.
Eyewitness said the accident, which happened at Itose village along the road, involved a Toyota Hiace commuter bus with number plate LSD 191 XK that was travelling from Sango-Ota in Ogun State to Ilorin, Kwara State.
The eyewitness said the driver of the bus lost control as he was making an attempt to manoeuvre his way after suddenly running into a pothole in the middle of the road.
The sudden manoeuvring, according to him, resulted in the bus skidding off the road into a ditch.
“The condition of the road caused the accident. There are several potholes in the middle of this road and several drivers have fallen victims. The driver of the passenger bus was trying to manoeuvre his way when he lost control and fell into the ditch below. Ten people died on the spot,” said the eyewitness who simply identified himself as Mr. Wahab.
The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Oyo State, Oluwaseun Onijala, confirmed the incident, saying that those injured in the accident were rescued and rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.
He said, “The bus had 19 passengers on board. Ten persons died while nine other passengers sustained injuries.
