NEW RAIL WILL LINK KEBBI, SOKOTO, ZAMFARA, SAYS AMAECHI

The Federal Government on Tuesday said it would link Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto states by rail in its ongoing railway modernisation project.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal.

He said the government was committed to developing transportation policies that were capable of moving the sector forward, according to a statement issued by his ministry in Abuja.

The statement said Ameachi, who also visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, noted that both Tambuwal and the Sultan called on the Federal Government, to as a matter of urgency, link Sokoto State with the ongoing rail modernisation project.

It outlined those on the minister’s entourage as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport, Olugbenga Ashafa; the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Sabiu Zakari; the Managing Director, Nigerina Railway Corporation, Mr. Fidet Okhiria; and the Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dakuku Peterside.

LOCALLY-ASSEMBLED VEHICLES TO GET SPEED LIMITERS

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of speed-related accidents in Nigeria, the National Automotive Development and Design Council has directed all vehicle manufacturing plants in the country to install the speed-limiting device in their vehicles.

When you hit a pothole you can damage your tyre and/or the metal wheel of your vehicle. Keeping your tyres properly inflated will help reduce damage from potholes and other road hazards.

The impact of potholes on tyres increases dramatically with speed and can cause hidden, internal damage that could lead to tyre failure weeks, or even months, later. It\'s best to avoid potholes entirely, but if that\'s not possible, don\'t brake during the pothole impact. Instead, apply brakes before hitting a pothole and release them just before impact. Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
