Tragedy struck on Thursday at the Onipanu end of the Ikorodu Expressway in Lagos State after a Toyota Camry crashed into a truck

Our correspondent learnt that although the car driver escaped, the ‘motor boy’ of the truck was crushed to death.

It took rescue agencies hours before the trapped remains of the victim could be removed from the wreckage.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Mahmud Hassan, said the accident happened overnight.

He said, “The truck had an accident overnight and spilled some of its content on the road. The car, which was coming from behind, rammed into the truck. Luckily, the car driver escaped unhurt, but the ‘motor boy’ was killed because the truck fell on him.

“We invited the traffic police from the Onipanu division because a life was lost. We brought our equipment to remove the truck from the road and clear the traffic. The whole operation ended around 9am.”

The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Michael Akindele, said the driver of the truck lost control of the truck, which led to the accident.

He said, “We received an alert at about 5.28am that a container truck, with number plate, GGE 756 XK, fell at the Onipanu bus stop on Ikorodu Road.

“The trapped dead body was extricated by the LASEMA response team and has been taken by officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit to the Mainland Hospital mortuary.

“Also, the agency’s heavy duty truck was used to remove the affected vehicles from the road to allow a free flow of vehicular movement.”
