Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday visited some of the major traffic points in the metropolis, stating that his administration will provide solutions to traffic snarls in the state.
The governor, who spoke with journalists at Dopemu in Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area after the inspection, said he decided to visit the traffic points himself to get a firsthand experience of the prevailing situation.
Ambode also approved the construction of a pedestrian bridge at the Ojodu Berger Bus Stop, a critical entry and exit point of Lagos.
“We have seen that Berger needs a foot bridge and immediately the engineers are going to go to work and we will make sure that we put something there. We don’t want any traffic on that highway. We are already thinking of additional solutions to allow vehicles to extend outside of the highway. That’s an engineering work and it’s already being considered,” he said.
Berger Bus Stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been a hotbed for extreme traffic snarls. The daily and predictable traffic gridlock along that axis cannot be disconnected from the number of pedestrians crossing from one end of the road to the other and commercial and private vehicles stopping to either pick or drop passengers.
Many have indeed wondered why the no-brainer solution of having a pedestrian bridge at that spot never occurred to the responsible arms of both the State and Federal Government. It is anticipated that the coming of this bridge will not only alleviate suffering of the commuters along this route but will also make for an improved travel experience from that point through to Oworonsoki and the 3rd Mainland bridge.
