At least 29 cattle were drowned on Tuesday following a heavy downpour that washed away several roads in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Farmlands and bridges linking the people of the area to the headquarters of the local government were not spared by the rainfall that lasted for several hours.
Member representing Jos East constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon Joshua Madaki, who lamented the monumental wreak caused by the havoc, told journalists yesterday that by disconnecting the council secretariat from the people and forcing residents to go through Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State before they can reach the council headquarters the local government was in disarray.
Madaki solicited the intervention of the state government and other spirited individuals to rescue the affected communities by providing relief materials and to reconstruct the damaged bridges to enable the farmers move their harvests to the markets.
He told journalists that:
“The main roads connecting Fobur-Federe-Angwari at Keven are badly washed away by the flood, including farmlands; no heavy truck can pass through the area. Maza community road was also affected, disconnecting the people and rendering them helpless.”
