The Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested three suspected pipeline vandals from Eket Local Government Area of the State.
The state Police Commissioner, Murtala Mani, said that the suspects were arrested in a hotel with improvised explosive devices capable of destroying high pressure oil pipelines.
Mani said that other items recovered from the suspects included a battery for igniting explosion, a bottle wrapped with red clothes, native eggs and feathers suspected to be charms.
The commissioner called on the people to be alert and to report to the police any suspicious persons in the community.
There are no indications that the arrested vandals are members of the Niger Delta Avengers who have laid claim to the destruction of many oil facilities in the past.
Meanwhile the militants have resolved to negotiate with the Federal Government. However, they disagreed with the plan of some leaders to choose Chief Edwin Clark as one of the representatives.
