The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday said any attempt to convert the 114 newly-constructed roads in the 57 local government areas and local council development areas into venues for trading or parking lots would be resisted by the government.

Ambode, who inaugurated another set of completed roads in the councils, added that conversion of the roads to other uses other than for motoring would reduce their lifespans.

In an address read by his representatives at various venues of the inauguration, the governor observed that many landlords in the state did not allot space within their structures for parking, adding that rather, they asked their tenants to park on the road.

“Allowing heavy static load on the road will reduce the lifespan of the road. Good roads embellish the community. They also reduce flooding and allow residents to live comfortably. Illegal usage of roads as automobile workshop, as well as dumps, must stop,” he added.

At the inauguration of Seriki Kemberi Road and Alhaji Rasak Street in Iba LCDA, the governor was represented by a member of the state House of Assembly, Oladele Adekanye; and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola.
