Some suspected cult members have unleashed mayhem on residents of Oniyanrin, Mile 12, in the Ketu area of Lagos State.
During the attack, a Lagos Bus Rapid Transit driver, identified as Semiu Ogundele, who reportedly ran into the rampaging gang members, was cut with cutlasses and machetes.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the 32-year-old was taken to a private hospital in the area where he was admitted.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the community had been peaceful until the cult members had a disagreement which culminated in the fight.
He said, “I cannot tell what the bone of contention was. I just arrived in the community and noticed that some vehicles had been vandalised, with broken bottles all over the place.
“I was told that many people were injured and beaten up, while others were robbed.
“The case was reported at the Ketu Police Division, and operatives from the station have been patrolling the community. No suspect has been arrested because the hoodlums disappeared after the attack.”
Another resident, who identified herself simply as Opeoluwa, said peace had returned to the community.
She urged the police to beef up security and end activities of cult members in the area.
Our correspondent, who spoke with Ogundele on the hospital bed, learnt that he was returning from work when he was attacked.
“I was going home when they surrounded me and stabbed me in different parts of my body. There were many of them. I bled from where they stabbed me. I managed to get to the hospital. I am getting better,” he added.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, promised to call back, but had yet to do so as of press time.
