The Lagos State Government has signed a major agreement with an experienced international railway systems aggregator and rolling stocks manufacturer, Alstom SA of France on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) project as part of efforts to rev up the multi-modal transport system in the State.

Work has finally started on the Lagos Cable Car project, the ambitious $275 million initiative to ease transportation difficulties in the State. Dayo Mobereola, Lagos Commissioner for transportation in an interview with the Guardian said that upon completion, cable car project will have eight stations in three routes, in order to handle the estimated 240,000 trips daily.

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, said on Thursday that the state’s light rail project would be completed by December 2016 and would commence operation immediately. This is coming about six years after the Blue Line rail project was awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Company. It is a 27-kilometre line stretching from Okokomaiko to Marina.
