TRUCK KILLS ONE, INJURES TWO IN LAGOS

A trailer carrying a 40-feet container rammed into a commercial bus at the Ikeja end of the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway on Friday, killing one person and leaving two others badly injured.

The heavy duty truck, which was heading towards the Oshodi area, was said to have crashed into the bus at the other end of the road after its driver lost control of the vehicle. The tragedy caused heavy traffic in the area, forcing many pedestrians to trek to their destinations.

The police spokesperson in Lagos State, Mr. Kenneth Nwosu, while confirming the incident to our correspondent, said it was a fatal scene and that the injured were in stable conditions.

He said, “It was a very fatal accident in which one person died and two others seriously injured. Those injured are getting t medical attention at the hospital. As we speak, I can confirm to you that the driver of the truck has been arrested and in our custody.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Mrs. Bola Ajao, told Saturday PUNCH that the trailer marked LSR740XG was driving in the same direction with the commercial bus with number plate LSR525XF when the tragedy took place.

Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
