TRUCK OWNERS FAULT NPA’S N10,000.00 LEVY

The Coalition of Port Dry Cargo Transport Operators (CPDTO) has opposed the ten N10,000.00 electronic sticker levy introduced by the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA).

Speaking with journalists during a solidarity protest at the port entrance gate at Lagos Ports Complex, the Executive Secretary of National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Aloga Ogbogo said the N10,000.00 levy is unacceptable.

Appealing to the Federal Government to intervene, Chairman Port Dry Cargo Transport Operators, Abdullahi Inuwa said the protest was against the levy, adding that members are in support of ensuring that the trucks meet the required minimum standards.

He said truck drivers are already contending with problem of bad road and other challenges.

LOCALLY-ASSEMBLED VEHICLES TO GET SPEED LIMITERS

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of speed-related accidents in Nigeria, the National Automotive Development and Design Council has directed all vehicle manufacturing plants in the country to install the speed-limiting device in their vehicles.

He said, “The impact associated with the implementation of the auto policy is as follows: the diversion of cars carrying vessel to neighbouring West African ports as a result of high tariff on imported vehicles; and the reduction of the maritime workforce by 70 per cent, which affects mostly licensed customs agents, importers, dealers and Nigerians abroad.”

Hitting potholes can throw your vehicle\'s front end out of alignment. If you feel your car \"pulling\" during driving, that\'s a clue that you could have a problem.

Check the tread on your tyres. Uneven tread wear can be a sign of misalignment. If you hit a severe pothole, have the vehicle\'s alignment and tyre balance checked.

When you hit a pothole you can damage your tyre and/or the metal wheel of your vehicle. Keeping your tyres properly inflated will help reduce damage from potholes and other road hazards.

The impact of potholes on tyres increases dramatically with speed and can cause hidden, internal damage that could lead to tyre failure weeks, or even months, later. It\'s best to avoid potholes entirely, but if that\'s not possible, don\'t brake during the pothole impact. Instead, apply brakes before hitting a pothole and release them just before impact. Braking during the impact sets up the tyre and wheel assembly for a \"solid hit\" against the edge of the hole. Less severe damage occurs when a tyre is rolling than when it is skidding over a hole during braking.
