Uber drivers in Lagos have gone on strike in a bid to express their anger against the recently implemented 40% slash on fair prices by the digital cab-hailing platform.
Following the 40% price reduction by Uber recently in response to Taxify, a growing competitor, Lagos’ Uber drivers have embarked on a peaceful demonstration to register their grievances against the cab-hailing platform.
According to an Uber driver who had a chat with Omojuwa.Com, “Uber drivers in Lagos are currently protesting against the new Uber pricing regime and Uber’s alleged decision to retain its 25% fee.”
He also stated that the drivers want the current fare reduction halted, Uber’s fee reduced to 10%, and a rider verification system.
The drivers’ other major concerns include the absence of insurance policy for drivers and proper rider verification.
After a meeting in which all drivers agreed to down tools to express their discomfort with the platform, a decision to also hit the streets of Lagos in a peaceful protests was reached.
