STAKEHOLDERS, FRSC PARTNER TO REDUCE CARNAGE ON BENIN-ASABA HIGHWAY

In a bid to reduce the high rate of motor accidents along the Benin-Asaba Expressway and the Delta State capital territory corridor, the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and an NGO, Fight Against Desert Encroachment (FADE) have launched the ‘Capital Territory Corridor Speed Limit Initiative’, which aims at campaigning to reduce speed limit on the highway, especially at the Issele Azagba and Okpanam entry points.

The corridor is said to record an average of five deaths a week, which is considered too high at a time the world targets to reduce accidents and deaths by 50 per cent by the year 2020.

Through the ‘Supporting Enforcement’ programme of the Arrive Alive Road Safety Initiative, partners to the project have donated three police motorbikes for use by the FRSC to strengthen the measures being put in place by the partnership.

While receiving the motorbikes from Mr. Charles Egbuedo, representing Star Deep Water Director, Mr. Jeffrey Ewing, the Director General, DSCTDA, Chief Clem Ofuani, and the Delta State Sector Commander, Commander Kumven Rindon, pledged the readiness of his officers and men to enforce the speed limits at those identified spots.
